Cross-Border Vehicle Hire

Every hire vehicle crossing a Zambian border needs written authorisation from its owner, and border officials do check. A vehicle hired for local use will be turned back. This is the single most common reason a cross-border trip fails, and it is entirely avoidable with notice.

When you tell us the countries and dates up front, we prepare the authorisation letter and the vehicle documents you will be asked for, and we tell you what you need to arrange yourself at the border — third-party insurance for the destination country, road access and carbon tax where they apply, and the temporary import permit.

We also make sure the right vehicle goes. A cross-border run wants a double cab or a 4x4 with a full-size spare and a service interval that will not fall due mid-trip.

Give us as much notice as you can — a week or more is comfortable, and a couple of days is tight. Approval is at our discretion and depends on the destination and the vehicle.

Cross-border hire is approved per trip, so tell us where you are headed and we will confirm. Neighbouring countries are the usual requests.
